Effetti gemetici delľinquinamento in popolazioni lagunari di Balanus amphitrite Darwin (Cirripedia: Thoracica)

Abstract
The present study concerns the genetic monitoring of three populations ofBalanus amphitrite from areas of the lagoon of Venice with different types of pollution. The comparison of gene and genotype frequencies and the multilocus structure among the considered populations suggest a strong influence of chemical pollutants on the genetic structure ofBalanus amphitrite, whereas thermal pollution does not seem to play a significant role. The results are consistent with the theory of natural selection. A possible selective mechanism is briefly discussed.
