dc.description.abstract | This proposal analyses the first arrival of the Prêt-à-porter (“ready to wear”) at a sector of the capital city of Chile. This new form of production brought about the installation of a net of boutiques in the eastern zone of Santiago, mainly in the district of Providencia, a phenomenon that was unknown in the national medium. The research analyses a period of two decades (1967–1897), where at first a convergence is produced between the national textile production and the creation of clothing inspired in the main international trends. This unique phenomenon was decaying as the free market economy allowed the income of textile inputs and the import of foreign clothes, which brought about the spread of this net of boutiques. It boosted the national Prêt-à-porter between the step from democratic governments towards a strong military dictatorship. | |
