Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the link between sexual orientation and mentalhealth among young people in Chile between 2015 and 2022, a period of changes inlegislation and public opinion that gave rise to a more inclusive environment with regardto sexual diversity. It focuses on young people, given the mental health vulnerability ofsexual minorities in this group. Data from the National Youth Survey are used to analysedepressive symptomatology, suicidal ideation and treatment of mental health problems,with the results indicating that non-heterosexual young people are much more likely tosuffer from mental health problems than their heterosexual counterparts. The mental healthof young people in general, and of non-heterosexual young people in particular, worsenedaccording to figures for 2022, during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
