- ItemArquitectura y ficción: Dune y los laboratorios subterráneos como estrategia para la conservación de vida vegetal en Alto Patache(2024) Barros Dussaillant, Olivia; Alonso Zúñiga, Pedro Ignacio; Ruiz Abraham, Javier Ignacio; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaFrente a la actual crisis climática y al período del Antropoceno, se hace necesario replantear las con-diciones del habitar, frente a un contexto cada vez más ecológicamente inestable e incierto. Teniendoen cuenta lo anterior, y apoyándose en los presupuestos básicos de la ciencia ficción, es que estainvestigación se propone indagar la posibilidad de proyectar ciertas vías remediales que favorezcanla habitabilidad en espacios altamente afectados por el cambio climático. Debido a las condicionesextremas que caracterizan actualmente a Alto Patache -localidad situada en la región de Tarapacá-,el sitio podría ser considerado, a nivel metodológico, como un escenario extremo con relación a lasconsecuencias de la crisis climática. Dado los paralelos que existen entre las condiciones de AltoPatache, y las descritas por Frank Herbert en su novela de ciencia ficción Dune (1965), se proponedesarrollar un proyecto que utilice la ficción como manera de abordar escenarios potenciales, y comoun depósito de ideas cruciales que podrían ser puestas a prueba en espacios como el desierto deAtacama. Interesa preguntarse entonces qué claves puede proveer esta novela y, de paso, qué funciónpodría tener este género literario como herramienta para pensar en ‘futuros posibles’. Se entiende elconcepto de ‘futuro posible’ como un escenario proyectado que busca proponer lo que podría serel porvenir de la crisis climática actual y la función que diversos sujetos cumplirían en ese contextoextremo. Se propone tomar las “Botanical Testing Stations” -estructuras subterráneas para cultivosde plantas- descritas en la novela, e introducirlas en el escenario de Alto Patache, como un inten-to por potenciar las condiciones de laboratorio que ofrece este lugar. Asimismo, esta investigaciónintenta responder al papel que podrían tener la ciencia ficción y los “seres de ficción”, en el sentidopropuesto por Bruno Latour, junto a la función de la arquitectura y sus propuestas para el habitar enel contexto de la crisis climática.El escenario de Alto Patache propuesto en la investigación se construye/proyecta a partir de laevidencia científica emanada de estudios geográficos, biológicos y climatológicos, la que acompañala investigación de principio a fin, constituyendo una base científica desde la cual se sustentará lapropuesta. Además, la hipótesis planteada, si bien se apoya en el género especulativo de la cienciaficción, busca informar y plantear soluciones en torno a una posible realidad futura. Junto a lo ante-rior, la investigación incorpora ciertos conceptos planteados por el filósofo, sociólogo y antropólogofrancés Bruno Latour respecto a los seres de ficción y los modos de existencia.
- ItemBordes en degradación: el caso de la Estación de Biología Marina de Montemar(2024) Prado Nielsen, Domingo José; Hevia García, Guillermo; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLa costa del litoral chileno, al norte de Reñaca, ha sido objetivo de juicio por la relación que existe entre la arquitectura y su contexto, basado en conceptos culturales, sociales o económicos. A partir de la apariencia degradada que existe en un edificio de alto valor arquitectónico, como lo es la Estación de Biología Marina de Montemar, nace la inquietud por estudiar la relación que se produce entre la arquitectura y su contexto ecológico y por especular las posibilidades proyectuales que existen ante fenómenos naturales costeros. Tanto el programa como la forma se vuelven fundamentales en la agencia educativa que tiene la Estación para el lugar de Montemar y Cochoa, histórica y actualmente. El habitante y el océano Pacífico, específicamente en el contexto chileno, han estado relacionados tradicionalmente por la pesca y por el comercio marítimo. Independiente de esta función productiva, el conocimiento cultural que existe con respecto a la costa es precario para la inmensidad y complejidad que suponen los vastos kilómetros de océano que bordean el territorio. Los factores antrópicos que han supuesto un sacrificio para la ecología de Montemar marcan las prioridades en el proyecto arquitectónico para especular la relación de este con la naturaleza. La composición y materialidad de la Estación sirve como un vestigio del agotamiento de un proyecto que ha dialogado con su entorno como también opuesto resistencia. Desde el análisis histórico y formal del edificio se plantea estudiar cómo la arquitectura y naturaleza se han afectado mutuamente.
- ItemConservación Activa del Paisaje Altiplánico desde los Intersticios Mineros: Caso Salar de Maricunga(2024) Sandoval Vallejos, Jonathan Ignacio; Moreno Flores, Osvaldo; Arizaga, Ximena; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLa investigación proyectual aborda el impacto de la extracción minera en paisajes altiplánicos frágiles desde la arquitectura del paisaje, en dónde se reconoce un espacio de oportunidad para diseñar soluciones que integren los usos productivos, científicos y turísticos en el salar de Maricunga con el fin de promover la conservación del paisaje. En el marco de las Evaluaciones de Impacto Ambiental, la minería del Litio ha tenido el permiso para la exploración y explotación del recurso mineral en territorios desérticos altiplánicos, específicamente en salares, como fuente principal de Litio; las operaciones mineras han perturbado el ambiente altoandino, como se ha visto en múltiples salares entre Chile, Argentina y Bolivia. Lo anterior es el punto de partida para situar la investigación considerando el recurso hídrico, como sostenedor de la vida en el desierto más árido del mundo, y contrastarlo con la actividad productiva que está en auge actualmente, entendiéndola como una minería del agua. Esto se respalda en la búsqueda de una transición energética, en donde la sociedad contemporánea se ha enfocado en el producto resultante del proceso de extracción del metal. Así, el modo de operar en los salares provoca una pérdida de los valores naturales, sin realizar medidas de mitigación adecuadas respecto a la fragilidad ecológica que presentan estos hábitats y las especies endémicas y micro endémicas que existen en el territorio. La investigación propone estrategias y un diseño, bajo lo establecido por las declaraciones ambientales de proyectos de extracción, en el salar de Maricunga para su conservación de manera activa, es decir, una adecuada protección de áreas con fragilidad ecológica y una integración de las actividades tanto productivas como científicas y turísticas. El proyecto considera operaciones de reutilización de los descartes mineros, nuevas circulaciones de agua superficial y activación de espacios en una nueva estructura que articula las actividades mineras que han convertido al salar en un campo de maniobras, en conjunto con las áreas de mayor fragilidad en el sistema, para promover las investigaciones científicas y del Estado, como también el desarrollo del turismo como mecanismo de control en un paisaje alterado.
- ItemConservando una historia viva: planificación de un Parque Patrimonial en el Paisaje de los olivos de Huasco Bajo(2024) Brunet Mahou, Sophie; Moreno Flores, Osvaldo; Arizaga, Ximena; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLa historia de Huasco Bajo se remonta a la época precolonial, cuando el ser humano comenzó a trabajar la tierra mediante la agricultura, estableciendo así una conexión con el territorio. La introducción del olivo como especie arbórea en esta región se produjo con la llegada de los colonizadores españoles. En el año 1900 se estableció la primera gran plantación de olivos en Huasco Bajo, la cual ha perdurado desde entonces, generando una estrecha relación entre los habitantes y este árbol mediterráneo, así como todas las labores y técnicas asociadas a su cultivo. Pese a esto, el oficio olivícola se ha transmitido de generación en generación, forjando un imaginario en torno a un paisaje específico y contribuyendo a la percepción del territorio como un Paisaje Cultural.Actualmente, únicamente el casco histórico de Huasco Bajo ha sido declarado Zona Típica, sin incluir un polígono que abarque elementos patrimoniales significativos, como los componentes naturales, culturales y antrópicos que conforman el paisaje de olivos de Huasco Bajo.Además, se observa un abandono y deterioro del paisaje olivícola, debido a diversas causas, entre las que destacan la falta de una figura de protección y la poca rentabilidad económica que tiene el oficio olivícola.Por lo tanto, se propone la creación de un Parque Patrimonial que permita la puesta en valor y la preservación del Paisaje de los Olivos de Huasco Bajo, a través de un proyecto de Arquitectura del Paisaje.
- ItemDevelando el Paisaje del Desierto Florido: De Parque Nacional a Archipiélago de Conservación(2024) San Martin Sanfuentes, Francisca Ignacia; Moreno Flores, Osvaldo; Arizaga Soto, Ana Ximena; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Faciultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Estudios UrbanosEl fenómeno del Desierto Florido se caracteriza por su larga latencia y su esporádica floración. A pesar de ser reconocido como un patrimonio natural a nivel nacional, actualmente presenta desafíos para su conservación en sus ambas temporalidades. En este contexto y a partir de la identificación, representación y análisis de las diversas interacciones ecológicas y culturales de el Paisaje del Desierto Florido se propone la implementación de un proyecto multiescalar que consistiría en la creación de un “Archipiélago de Conservación” que contenga las diversas manifestaciones y temporalidades del fenómeno. Este archipiélago estaría conformado por siete áreas dispersas pero integradas ecológica y programáticamente en la región. Logrando así, la conservación por medio de la activación del territorio
- ItemEncuadres construidos: Oportunidades de mediación arquitectónica para la experimentación ecológica en Alto Patache(2024) Johnson Pérez, Catalina; Alonso Zúñiga, Pedro Ignacio; Ruiz Abraham, Javier Ignacio; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLa presente tesis propone explorar el uso estratégico de las riquezas naturales para la experimentación y estudio del efecto de los objetos construidos en la flora y fauna de Alto Patache, bajo una propuesta de arquitectura como mediadora que tenga interés en el contexto ecológico como un sistema. Se trata de una consideración crítica y proyectual de las posibilidades de establecer arquitecturas e infraestructuras orientadas a la mediación, abordando la condición antrópica de habitabilidad humana y sus efectos ecológicos en el Oasis de Niebla de Alto Patache, región de Tarapacá, frente al problema de la disminución de especies endémicas de la zona. A partir de una mirada arquitectónica, se emplazan operaciones proyectuales en sectores específicos, que logren vincular lo vivo y no vivo que son relevantes a la tesis. El proyecto busca la implementación de una arquitectura consciente del entorno, que al mismo tiempo pueda albergar al ser humano como el responsable del estudio ecológico, la experimentación y del correcto funcionamiento de estos objetos eco-técnicos introducidos. La tesis explorará diversos escenarios de fricción existentes entre los organismos y el hábitat de Alto Patache con el fin de mediarlas a través de la arquitectura. Estas fricciones serán analizadas a la luz de los sujetos que habitan el desierto y los objetos con los cuales se relacionan actualmente. Esta lectura de escenario, objetos y sujetos en torno al concepto de fricción es una oportunidad de diseño. Al comprender y valorar las fricciones como puntos de contacto significativos, se abrirá la puerta a la exploración y el diseño de soluciones traducibles a un proyecto de arquitectura mediante estrategias que promuevan la interacción enriquecedora entre lo humano y lo no humano. La realización de un estudio para impulsar la ecología de un desierto reviste una importancia crítica dado el avance global de la desertificación. Esta problemática planetaria demanda una respuesta inmediata y multidisciplinaria. La presente investigación busca enfrentar esta problemática a través de soluciones innovadoras, que aborden tanto la conservación del ecosistema desertificado, como la adaptación de las sociedades a estos entornos cambiantes mediante una serie de encuadres de interés investigativo que se convertirán en marcos construidos de proyecto. Considerando que las formas modernas de ocupación del suelo por parte del ser humano implican la destrucción del ecosistema local, se propone investigar posibilidades donde -al contrario de provocar daño al resto de las especies- las estructuras humanas introducidas potencien lo preexistente, sin destruir el equilibrio ecosistémico. Esta perspectiva busca inspirar una nueva forma de habitar los ecosistemas, promoviendo soluciones innovadoras para la coexistencia entre el ser humano y el entorno natural a través del diseño.
- ItemEstrategias para la subdivisión predial sostenible en el paisaje rural: nueva ruralidad en el bosque costero valdiviano(2024) Velásquez Araneda, María Belén; Fernández Lozier, Paulina Andrea; Larraín Mery, Claudia Andrea; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Facultad de Arquitectura, Diseño y Estudios Urbanos. Escuela de ArquitecturaEn los últimos años, Chile ha experimentado un potente fenómeno migratorio desde las ciudades hacia las zonas rurales. Este hecho ha generado una fuerte presión en el sector inmobiliario, con un aumento exponencial en el número de parcelas rústicas destinadas a la construcción de viviendas. Los impactos de esta forma de urbanización son múltiples y complejos, incluyendo la pérdida de suelo productivo y de las tradiciones rurales; la desarticulación del espacio urbano; la profunda afectación en la oferta de servicios básicos como el agua potable; y -quizás lo más preocupante- un impacto incuantificable en la biodiversidad del paisaje rural chileno que ha supuesto la deforestación de bosque nativo, la destrucción de humedales y una brutal fragmentación de ecosistemas.Para observar este macro escenario a escala humana, comprenderlo, explicarlo y proyectarlo, se utilizará como caso de estudio el fenómeno de la “Selva Costera Valdiviana”, un territorio que se ha convertido en un lugar de gran interés para construir y vivir debido a sus atractivos paisajísticos y su ubicación privilegiada, bondades que han impulsado una subdivisión descontrolada de sus zonas rurales, trayendo consigo la fragmentación del bosque nativo, comprometiendo la conservación del suelo, vulnerando la población de flora y fauna local, y dañando seriamente los sistema de suministro de agua potable. Todo ello ha perjudicado no solo el potencial turístico de la zona y su belleza escénica, sino también -muy especialmente- la supervivencia de la vida y de las especies endémicas.En este contexto, se advierte el enorme desafió de asegurar el real ejercicio de los derechos consagrados en el artículo 19 de la Constitución Política de Chile: el derecho a la propiedad y el derecho a vivir en un medio ambiente libre de contaminación.En el caso de estudio, así como en los distintos escenarios del fenómeno migratorio a nivel nacional, salta a la vista la aparente incompatibilidad entre el poder efectivo de adquirir y habitar una propiedad, y los daños al medio ambiente causados por los proyectos inmobiliarios que responden a esa prerrogativa.Así las cosas, en este trabajo se propondrán una serie de estrategias de subdivisión predial que tengan en cuenta el paisaje como elemento articulador, que aborden la conservación, la intervención en el territorio, así como la planificación de edificaciones e infraestructuras de manera integral, considerando criterios ecológicos, productivos y comunitarios. Sin falsas pretensiones, esto debería sentar las bases de un modelo de desarrollo de zonas rurales que contribuya a subsanar la defectuosa normativa actual.
- ItemJardines de Biodiversidad: Representaciones atmosféricas y diseño de sistemas de restauración y conservación de los Refugios Climáticos de Biodiversidad en el valle de Vodudahue(2024) Aravena Silva, Diego; Aguirre Brautigam, Paula; Alfaro Vial, Pablo Javier; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaEsta investigación se sitúa en Vodudahue, un valle emplazado en la Ecorregión del Bosque Lluvioso Valdiviano de Chile, conocido por su paisaje y biodiversidad únicos. Vodudahue es el hogar de una gran diversidad de especies endémicas y actualmente se encuentra bajo la protección de la Fundación Alerce 3000, que se dedica a restaurar y proteger los ecosistemas, monitorear la biodiversidad y promover el desarrollo sostenible del área. A pesar de su buen estado de conservación, Vodudahue, al igual que muchas otras regiones, se enfrenta a los desafíos impuestos por el cambio climático. Los riesgos incluyen el aumento de las temperaturas y la reducción de las precipitaciones, fenómenos que podrían resultar en la pérdida de especies y ecosistemas delicados en pequeña escala dentro del bosque. En respuesta a estos desafíos, el Ministerio de Medio Ambiente ha identificado zonas como Refugios Climáticos de Biodiversidad, reconociendo áreas con condiciones geográficas y climáticas favorables que les permiten resistir mejor los efectos del cambio climático, entre ellos algunos sectores en el Valle de Vodudahue. Sin embargo, los estudios actuales sobre estos refugios se realizan a gran escala y no incorporan dinámicas específicas de especies ni factores microclimáticos, lo cual limita su efectividad en la protección de la biodiversidad local y que, si se añade al aumento de las temperaturas y la reducción de precipitaciones, podrían llevar a la extinción de especies pertenecientes a ecosistemas de pequeña escala dentro del bosque.En consecuencia, esta investigación examina cómo se manifiesta el cambio climático en Vodudahue. Esto se hace a través de un estudio detallado de los componentes atmosféricos, las alteraciones climáticas y las dinámicas ecosistémicas, en particular en los microecosistemas conformados por herbáceas, briófitas y líquenes que están en riesgo debido a cambios bruscos en su hábitat en relación a temperatura, humedad atmosférica, asoleamiento y exposición a los vientos. Se establece que, a diferencia de las especies más robustas como árboles y arbustos, cuya protección se sostiene en planificaciones de macro escala, zonificación, reproducción asistida y forestación, la protección de ecosistemas más frágiles requiere de conservar condiciones atmosféricas, específicas y particulares, que posibilitan estas formas de vida.Se postula que los Refugios Climáticos de Biodiversidad, entendidos como territorios de una escala mayor, pueden ser diseñados desde sitios de menor tamaño que, en la escala del jardín, operen como un sistema que promueva la conservación de los distintos ecosistemas locales, basándose en un análisis detallado de las condiciones microclimáticas, hábitat y dinámicas de especies. En esta visión de conservación, la apariencia estética del jardín se combina con su funcionalidad ecológica, al ofrecer nuevas condiciones para el desarrollo y restauración de ecosistemas que han sido degradados, en donde los jardines operarán como nodos para el control y monitoreo ambiental, permitiendo no solo la conservación de la biodiversidad sino también, la investigación de las condiciones microclimáticas que permiten la biodiversidad local, impulsando así su viabilidad a largo plazo en el contexto de cambio climático.
- ItemMosaico ecológico en la Región Capital: La rehabilitación del Humedal Puente Negro en el paisaje periurbano de la subcuenca de Chacabuco(2023) Baeza Veneros, Catalina Andrea; Abuauad Abujatum, Ricardo Andrés; Katz Gaudlitz, Carolina; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaEn los últimos 20 años, la subcuenca de Chacabuco se ha visto transformada por los acelerados procesos de urbanización que se han llevado a cabo en el territorio, modificando el paisaje agrícola de este territorio. La construcción de infraestructuras de movilidad, el relleno de humedales y la proliferación de las parcelas de agrado han consolidado un paisaje periurbano perturbado. Es así, como varios ecosistemas ecológicos se han visto alterados, siendo los humedales, importantes recursos de agua y biodiversidad, los más afectados. Este paisaje periurbano se ha traducido en la consolidación de asentamientos urbanos con una mala calidad de vida y una baja resiliencia frente al cambio climático. La llegada de los proyectos ferroviarios “Santiago - Valparaíso” y “Quinta Normal - Batuco” representan una oportunidad para revertir la situación actual y abordar los desafíos que enfrenta la subcuenca. Sin embargo, para lograrlo es necesario entender los proyectos ferroviarios como el inicio de una estrategia de planificación territorial mayor denominada “Región Capital para Chile” enfocada a conservar y restaurar los ecosistemas ecológicos preexistentes en el territorio.La investigación tiene como objetivo hacer visible, mediante el levantamiento del territorio, la utilización de la teoría del mosaico ecológico de Richard Forman y la representación del paisaje periurbano de Chacabuco, el potencial del corredor ferroviario “Santiago – Valparaíso” y de los humedales como elementos transformadores del paisaje. Cualidad que da pie a una propuesta de masterplan cuyo objetivo es fortalecer la conectividad ecológica y resiliencia del paisaje periurbano, y al diseño de un proyecto de rehabilitación del humedal Puente Negro, explorando distintas estrategias para conservar, integrar y revalorizar los humedales de Chacabuco como ecosistemas de resistencia.
- ItemEl proyecto de vivienda en densidad renueva ecológicamente: estrategias de densificación de borde como instrumento clave para potenciar el rol ecológico del Zanjón de la Aguada(2023) Grollmus Zúñiga, Barbara; Bozzi, Dino; Orta Camus, Paula; Contreras Rodríguez, Fernando; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLa construcción de edificios de vivienda en densidad, históricamente ha resuelto el déficit habitacional, pero generando grandes impactos ecológicos. El cambio climático ha llevado a replantearse la manera en la que se construye ciudad y la relación del entorno urbano con la naturaleza.Dado que son elementos de continuidad del paisaje natural, y constituyen la conexión histórica de la ciudad con el territorio, los cursos de agua son ecológicamente relevantes dentro de Santiago. Los bordes de estos cursos, son el lugar donde la ciudad se enfrenta a la naturaleza y donde se establece la relación entre ambas. A través del adecuado diseño de urbanización de estos bordes, se puede potenciar el rol ecológico que cumplen los corredores fluviales, maximizando así los servicios ecosistémicos que puedan entregar a los habitantes. De esta manera pueden convertirse en una herramienta para atenuar los efectos del cambio climático en la ciudad y contribuir al bienestar de la población.Ante el vago reconocimiento del valor ecológico de estoslugares y la escasa planificación de ellos, se hace necesario establecer parámetros que regulen su desarrollo, en pos de su funcionamiento.El presente estudio busca indagar y comprender técnicas de diseño de edificios en densidad, que potencien el rol ecológico de los cursos de agua. Posteriormente se plantea la construcción de un catálogo de posibilidades aplicables al Zanjón de la Aguada. Finalmente se propone un proyecto, a modo de ejemplo, enla zona aledaña al Parque Víctor Jara, utilizando las estrategias previamente establecidas.
- ItemRehabilitación de un paisaje de borde de humedales costeros en zonas áridas: Diseño de gradiente de relaciones en Santuario de la naturaleza Carrizal Bajo(2024) Lara Vera, Rosario; Moreno Flores, Osvaldo; Arizaga, Ximena; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de ArquitecturaLos humedales costeros de la Región de Atacama se desarrollan en un contexto de gran escasez hídrica, debido a la zona semiárida a la que pertenecen. Es por esto que albergan un gran valor ecológico asociado a la presencia de agua, siendo importantes focos de biodiversidad de flora y fauna, caracterizada por su gran endemismo. Este sistema de humedales es de vital importancia, ya que, conforman un corredor de hábitats para aves migratorias, y a la vez son de gran relevancia socio-cultural debido a la serie de servicios ecosistémicos y valor escénico que proveen a las comunidades locales. Sin embargo, corresponden a ecosistemas frágiles debido a la presión antrópica y amenaza por riesgos naturales que presentan, volviéndose de especial interés la zona de borde, ya que corresponde a la interfaz que alberga las distintas relaciones y dinámicas que se desarrollan en el sitio.Dentro de este sistema de humedales costeros, se encuentra el Humedal de Carrizal Bajo, el cual se forma en la desembocadura de la quebrada Carrizal, la que a su vez conecta con el Parque Nacional Llanos de Challe. La formación del humedal a partir de las escorrentías y cursos de agua del sistema de quebradas, sumado a la influencia costera, se desarrolla junto a Carrizal Bajo, localidad que hoy se encuentra en un importante estado de abandono y degradación, lo que ha tensionado la relación con el humedal. La falta de ordenamiento y manejo del sitio ha provocado su degradación, existiendo una amenaza contante al ecosistema que este alberga.Es por esto que la presente tesis proyectual busca responder a este paisaje en estado de degradación y amenaza, por medio de la rehabilitación del borde del humedal, reconociendo estazona de transición como unidad clave del paisaje, donde se presenta una gradiente de relaciones que se busca identificar e intensificar por medio del diseño. Para ello se establecen estrategias de paisaje que permitan la preservación y puesta en valor del humedal costero, a través de la propuesta de un proyecto de arquitectura del paisaje que responda tanto a la conservación ecológica como la activación programática del sitio, buscando develar y potenciar las dinámicas de borde.
