- Item"Administração de catequese e civilização dos índios” na província da Bahia (1836-1887): entre civilização e questão de terra(2022) Ribeiro, Edilmar CardosoEn la perspectiva de la inserción de los indígenas en la sociedad, este artículo examina la administración de catequesis y civilización de los indios en la provincia de Bahía (1836-1887), con base en los lineamientos y aplicación del Decreto Provincial n° 32 de 1836 y del Decreto Imperial n° 426 de 1845. Mediante un enfoque histórico-descriptivo, basado principalmente en fuentes primarias –documentos manuscritos (cartas, informes, correspondencias) encontrados en el Archivo Público del Estado de Bahía (APEB) y documentos editados (leyes e informes) –así como en una selecta bibliografía, se buscó poner en confronto y dialogo principalmente la documentación de archivo de los diversos autores involucrados directo o indirectamente en el proceso de catequesis y civilización de los indios. Los resultados logrados son: el Reglamento de 1836 tuvo poca aplicabilidad, ya que no daba pautas efectivas y no contaba con suficientes agentes para la catequesis; el Reglamento de la catequesis y civilización de los indios de 1845 tuvo aplicación parcial por falta de recursos económicos, por ser buena parte de sus orientaciones anacrónicas en relación a la realidad de los antiguos asentamientos y pueblos de indios y por la incredulidad de las autoridades públicas hacia esta rama del servicio público; el Reglamento de 1845 no fomentó la fundación de nuevos asentamientos y el nombramiento de directores para los antiguos asentamientos agravó aún más los conflictos sobre la tenencia de la tierra y contribuyó al proceso de usurpación de las tierras de los indígenas.
- ItemReligion, Politics, and Society: Contribution from Pope Francisco?s thoughts on Brazil(2022) Ribeiro, Edilmar CardosoFaced with the bicentennial of Brazil's independence, and with the problems and challenges that afflict our time, we question the role of religion and politics. The present article seeks to examine Pope Francis' thoughts on religion and politics, in order to help think about the Brazil we want for the present and the future. Initially, it addresses the importance of religion for building peace, overcoming violence and religious discrimination, for fraternity and caring for our common home. Next, politics is presented as a service to peace, justice, and solidarity, to the human person, to integral development, to the common home, and it explains the duty of lay Christians to participate in political life. The article concludes that dialogue and collaboration are necessary among the different reli- gious traditions, and between them and politics, for the promotion of a human, peaceful, just, sustainable and hopeful present and future.
- ItemIndígenas, catequese e civilização no município da vila de São José de Porto Alegre, Bahia (1842-1849)(Federal University of Fronteira Sul, 2023) Ribeiro, Edilmar CardosoThis article aims to describe the initiatives of the Provincial Government of Bahia to catechize and civilize the so-called “savage indians” of the municipality of São José de Porto Alegre (1842-1849). First, the presence of indigenous people in the municipality of São José de Porto Alegre is discussed, highlighting their conflicts with settlers. Then, we present the authorities' perceptions about the best means to catechize and civilize the natives, highlighting two methods: the foundation of a village and a military colony. Next, the village foundation is analyzed, showing its failure due to the lack of missionaries and, mainly, the natives’ resistance to the village. Afterward, the initiative to establish the military colony is examined, showing its failure due to the poor adaptability of the non-indigenous people to the jungle and the lack of adequate financial means. Finally, we conclude by emphasizing the government’s inability to adequately promote catechesis and civilization and the absence of public authorities in the Mucuri region.

- ItemTeologia, Espiritualidade e Contemporaneidade: Notas historiobiográfia de ritos fúnebres do povo Pataxó(2023) Ribeiro, Edilmar Cardoso; Mendes, Everaldo dos Santos; Peretti, CléliaEn la fe y la cultura de los pueblos originarios de América, los ritos funerarios no sólo facilitan el viaje de los difuntos a la región de los muertos, sino que también impiden su regreso al mundo de los vivos. En la pandemia del coronavirus (COVID-19), nos preguntamos: En los pueblos Pataxó, ¿cómo enterraban los pueblos originarios a sus seres queridos víctimas del COVID-19? En este trabajo, nos propusimos investigar el significado de los ritos funerarios del pueblo Pataxó. Basándonos en la historiobiografía -método terapéutico y educativo de redescubrimiento del sentido de la vida a través de la comprensión de la historia personal, acuñado por Dulce Critelli -entrevistaremos a tres miembros adultos de la aldea Coroa Vermelha, localizada en el Territorio de Identidad de la Costa del Descubrimiento -Estado de Bahia (Brasil). Trazaremos una investigación cualitativa basada en la experiencia personal de los participantes, en los documentos de la Iglesia y en la obra "Sulla theologia della morte", de Karl Rahner. En este sentido, abordaremos la muerte no como un mero hecho social, sino como un fenómeno que hay que comprender ontológicamente.
