K.; Navarrete, C.; Catelan, MárcioThe Galactic halo is well populated by tidal streams and overdensities, showing its heterogeneus origin and providing important clues about its formation history. RR Lyrae stars have proven to be excellent tracers of halo substructures, due to the quality of the distances that can be derived from them, and the relatively straightforward methods that lead to their clean identification. In this work, we present our observational efforts to unveil and characterize the hypothetical accreted systems in areas of the sky with an evident excess of RR Lyrae stars. In particular, we have focused in the southern hemisphere, where some of these substructures seem to be connected with other northern stellar halo substructures....

- ItemNear-Field Cosmology with RR Lyrae Variable Stars: a first view of substructure in the southern sky(2016) Navarrete, C.; Duffau, S.; Vivas, A. J.We present the current status of the spectroscopic follow-up of a large number of RR Lyrae (RRL) halo overdensity candidates recently found by Torrealba et al. (2015) using southern-hemisphere data from the Catalina Real-time Transient Survey (CRTS). Characterizing the individual RRL stars in these overdensities is crucial to confirm them as real halo substructures. Low-resolution spectra have been obtained for RRL stars in 11 different overdensities, using the SOAR and Magellan telescopes. Radial velocities and metallicities have been derived so far for 123 and 99 RRL stars, respectively....

(4) and (5) of our original paper. The corrected table and equations are given below. The actual analysis that is described in the paper was based on the correct zero points, and so all of the results reported in our original publication remain unchanged".
- ItemPanniculus carnosus, remanentes vestigiales en la región axilar(2008) Inzunza H., Oscar; Marín, A.; Pino, F.; Navarrete, C.; Vargas, A.Las variaciones anatómicas de los elementos musculares de la región axilar son poco frecuentes y, generalmente, se encuentran olvidadas en los textos modernos de anatomía. Sin embargo, cuando existen, presentan un serio escollo para el cirujano, ya que alteran los hitos anatómicos de referencia para el abordaje de los importantes elementos vasculares y neurales de la región. Desde el siglo XIX algunos autores han descrito una variedad de pequeños fascículos musculares originados en el Panniculus carnosus, que se disponen en relación con los elementos neurovasculares de la axila. En esta ocasión presentamos un hallazgo efectuado en un cadáver, de sexo masculino, utilizado con fines docentes en el Departamento de Anatomía de la Escuela de Medicina de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. En la región axilar derecha, se observa un fascículo muscular que se extiende desde la apófisis coracoides, dispuesto por delante del músculo subescapular y pasando por detrás del paquete neurovascular de la axila. En su trayecto, este fascículo toma íntima relación con el nervio axilar y con la porción distal de la arteria subescapular. El músculo aberrante termina como una expansión aponeurótica, dispuesta ventral al tendón del latísimo del dorso, que se funde con la fascia axilar.

Here we report on a deep, wide-field, near-infrared (IR) variability survey for this cluster, carried out using ESO's 4.1m VISTA telescope. Our time-series data includes more than 180 RR Lyrae light curves in both J and Ks, allowing us to derive an unprecedented homogeneous and complete near-IR catalog of RR Lyrae in the field of omega Cen. Near-IR period-luminosity relations are derived and used to determine an updated (pulsational) distance modulus for the cluster....

P.; Moni Bidin, C.; Chené, A. -N.The Vista Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) ESO Public Survey is an ongoing time-series, near-infrared (IR) survey of the Galactic bulge and an adjacent portion of the inner disk, covering 562 square degrees of the sky, using ESOs VISTA telescope. The survey has provided superb multi-color photometry in 5 broadband filters ($Z$, $Y$, $J$, $H$, and $K_s$), leading to the best map of the inner Milky Way ever obtained, particularly in the near-IR. The main variability part of the survey, which is focused on $K_s$-band observations, is currently underway, with bulge fields having been observed between 31 and 70 times, and disk fields between 17 and 36 times. When the survey is complete, bulge (disk) fields will have been observed up to a total of 100 (60) times, providing unprecedented depth and time coverage. Here we provide a first overview of stellar variability in the VVV data, including examples of the light curves that have been collected thus far, scientific applications, and our efforts towards the automated classification of VVV light curves....
