- ItemRole of cognition and neurophysiology in interoceptive dimensions : a multilevel study(2021) Morales Sepúlveda, Juan Pablo; Rodríguez B., Eugenio; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Escuela de MedicinaInteroceptive awareness (IA), the conscious perception of the body's internal signals, is a multidimensional ability that encompasses four dimensions: precision (sensitivity), learning, metacognition, and sensibility. It has been linked to clinical disorders and social behaviours, and emotional processing and it is known to have a strong cognitive component. This research aims to know which of the most related cognitive factors and brain correlates predict interoceptive awareness in its four dimensions. METHODS: We used an interoceptive learning task; here, we can observe sensitivity, learning and metacognitive interoceptive behaviour while the brain's ongoing signal is recorded using an electroencephalogram and electrocardiogram. Besides, a cognitive set of instruments is applied to measure attention and fluid intelligence. RESULTS: Our data show that attention and the heart evoked potential (HEP) are the most relevant predictors of the emergence of interoceptive awareness.
