    Chilean Crises Lead to Experiments in Online Theatre

    In Chile, street protests and COVID-related public health emergencies have ravaged live theatre over the past year. While the political protests starting in October 2019 simply “limited” live theatre programming, the pandemic forced actual cancellation of whole theater seasons. As a result, theater companies and individual artists were forced to consider technology—Zoom readings, filmed Master Classes and video recordings of earlier productions. Beyond aesthetics, for many theatre people these projects became another chance to continue working. In this situation, what role does theatre criticism play? In times of catastrophe, can any critical judgements be ethical?

    INNOVATION IN TEACHING PRACTICES OF STUDENT TEACHERS

    This article deals with the willingness that student teachers have towards innovation regarding certain aspects of their future work, and which elements of teacher training programs influence such willingness to innovate. The data shows that student teachers perceive themselves to be innovators, particularly regarding the implementation of new ways of relating to students and the use of pedagogical tools. The variables that are most strongly associated with the willingness to innovate are related to the opportunities that student teachers have to search out their own ways of teaching, research recent progress and understand the state of the art of teaching methodologies, being aware of new opportunities, the capacity to develop new ideas, and the capacity to use time efficiently. As a whole, all of these variables together explain only a small portion of the variation regarding willingness to innovate, which leads to additional questions regarding which other elements may contribute to innovation in teaching practices.

    Territorio, nación, reconciliación: las telenovelas de Vicente Sabatini

    El artículo pone en diálogo la contingencia política de la postdictadura chilena y las estrategias desarrolladas por la industria televisiva en Chile desde inicios de los años noventa del siglo pasado, para rehilvanar el imaginario colectivo nacional. Se profundiza en la “época dorada de las teleseries en Chile”, como un modelo de producción de ficción popular que levantó una serie de códigos para hablar de la riqueza y diversidad sociocultural nacional en pos de un proyecto fallido de reconciliación para el país.
