- ItemAB1400-HPR Muscle quality index in obese subjects with hip osteoarthritis(2018) Jérez, D. A.; Machado, R.; Cerda Vega, EnriqueBackground: Obese older adults with hip osteoarthritis suffer a progressive loss of neuromuscular function affecting their activities of daily living. Objectives: The objective of this study is to determine the behaviour of the muscular quality index in obese subjects with osteoarthritis and to compare the manifestations of strength and anthropometric variables with control subjects. Methods: Thirty-two subjects (4 men and 28 women, 66.2±5.2 years of age, 159.2±7.5 cm, 71.5±11.7 kg) were evaluated. 14 subjects suffered osteoarthritis. Muscle circumference, limb length, body mass and sit and stand test were evaluated, in addition to the maximal voluntary isometric contraction in hip flexion and extension movements. Results: The osteoarthritis group presented obesity (p=0.037). The muscle quality index of the osteoarthritis group correlated with the weight (p=0.776**), with maximum peak strength in flexion (p=0.552*) and average maximal strength (p=0.574*). In the control group the muscle quality index correlated with: weight (p=0.689**), muscle circumference (p=0.571*), maximum peak strength in extension (p=0.534*), average peak strength in extension (p=0,523*), average maximal strength in extension (p=0.509*) and maximum impulse in extension (p=0.508*). Conclusions: The muscle quality index is a useful tool to measure muscle quality in the healthy population, but is not clear enough for obese subjects with osteoarthritis, so it is necessary to perform future studies to determine their behaviour.
- ItemComparison and migrations of physical activity during covid-19 confinement in Latin American(2022) Durán-Agüero, Samuel; Hernández, José; Parra-Soto, Solange; Püschel, Cristian; Zapata, Andrés; Cerda Vega, Enrique; Ríos, Mauricio OsvaldoPurpose: The study aims to characterize the practice and migration of physical activity in active people during the CO-VID-19 pandemic. Design: Cross-sectional observational study of a Latin American survey. Setting: An online survey in Google Forms format was applied between June and July 2020 through social networks. The survey consisted of general characteristics, characteris-tics of confinement, and characteristics related to physical activity. Subjects: 2134 people participated (33.6% male, the mean age was 30.7 ± 9.2 years), 95.2% with higher education, 74% were normal weight, 60.8% in voluntary lockdown, and 39.2% mandatory lockdown. Results: Pre-pandemic men did 217.92 min/week, and women 199.78 min/week; post-pandemic men declined to 168.34 min/week, and women to 176.70 min/week. Men pre-pandemic, had a higher proportion of compliance the WHO recommendation (77.3% vs 64.9% p =0.001). Regarding, physical activity migrations, men decreased in outside activities, team sports and increase in home physical activity, in women decreased in outside activities, team sports and an increased in fitness classes, yoga and home physical activity. Finally, when associating compliance with physical activity during confinement, it is associated with being a woman and with long weeks of confinement. Conclusion: The physically active people, despite the confinements, remain like this in the four countries evaluated; only changes are observed in the type of physical activity and the frequency of weekly sessions, not affecting their physical condition levels according to self-report.
